    Additional information:

The wagon is used with folded-out bolsters for transporting heavy rolled steel sections and other bulky goods. With the bolsters folded in, i.e. with a flat loading deck, wagons 31 80 4865 000-2 to 999-5 are also suitable for transporting heavy tracked vehicles. Drop ends that can be driven on and supports are provided for loading and unloading these vehicles. The supports have been discontinued on the remaining wagons of this type.

The wagon bridge is a welded frame structure with main components made of St 52. The main loads are absorbed by the outer solebars made of IPE 600. The buffer beams are designed in such a way that the automatic coupler can be installed later without major modifications.

The floor is made of pine planks measuring 70 x 200 mm; it can take a wheel load of 5.0 t. There are six split, folding bolsters built into the floor.

The vehicle has six removable stanchions on each long side and two retractable (fold-down) stanchions on each end face. The drop ends can be folded down. When not in use, the removable stanchions are stored in pockets on the side solebars. The lowered fold-down stanchions are still within the loading gauge so the wagon can also be driven with the fold-down stanchions lowered and the drop ends folded down.

The wagons are equipped with a ground-operated parking brake. Some wagons from the number range 31 80 4864 000 to 516 are equipped with three-part load units (stillages) for certain types of traffic (round continuous cast ingots). Special loading and maintenance instructions apply here.
